Iyengar answers the question: "What is yoga?"
"Yoga is one of the 6 systems of Indian philosophy. It is a method, which helps Man to search
for divinity within himself. This system was first codified by Sage Patanjali in the 5th century BC into 196 terse aphorisms. It consists of 8 aspects or limbs
and therefore is called as Astanga Yoga. The 8 aspects are Yama (social discipline); niyama (moral discipline); asana (presentation
of body postures to attain stability in body and steadiness in intelligence); pranayama (modulation of breath to distribute
the energy within the system); pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses of perception and the mind); dharana (concentration);
dhyana (meditation) and samadhi (state of eternal bliss). "
