PHILOSOPHY: - I practice
and teach hatha (physical) yoga, emphasizing focus, alignment, balance, and effective breathing techniques.
- Use of
props makes the postures more accessible and therefore more effective and meaningful.
- Yoga practitioners often
must work quite hard, challenging both mind and body, while at the same time learning not to push beyond their own
limits.
- Appreciation of the process rather than striving for a goal defines effective yoga practice.
Emotional, mental, and physical changes occur, but they are gradual.
- Laughter plays a large
part in both healthful living and yoga and at Blue Heron Yoga we manage to relax through laughter regularly.
- Learning to be very still, both mentally and physically, allows the use of the breath to release tension
and discomfort. (I
feel sure that a fair percentage of yoga students come to class primarily for the relaxation time at the end of each session!
Improved posture and balance, increased flexibility, and deepening sense of self are simply "lagniappe",
an old Creole word for "something extra".)
It doesn't happen all at once........ You become..............
It takes a long time.
